The Tatars are one of the most unique armies. They compensate their almost complete lack of infantry and guns with outstanding light cavalry and unparalleled mobility. Their specialty is hit-and-run warfare, fake retreats and ambushes. The Tatars do not have Units that will do well in defending positions, but on the offensive they can outmaneuver most opponents with the fastest horsemanship in the game. The backbone of the army is made up of light cavalry (Tatar warriors) that do an excellent job of harassing enemies with their bows. They also excel in reconnaissance.
Tatar warriors were armed primarly with reflex bows, sabers and spears. The Tatar cavalry was very mobile and their tactics were based on surprise, speed, feigned flight and quick withdrawals. Tatars were mainly a shooting cavalry but also could proce very dangerous in close combat. They were able to perfectly maneuver with massed cavalry and draw their enemies into ambushes in order to smash them with a surprise attack. Tatars avoided confrontation with a stronger enemy with large amounts of firepower.
Since the Tartar forces were levied from the general population, all segments of the population, including those from the lowest social and economic levels wenton larger campaigns. These levies could not afford good horses, expensive equipment, and their arms were often improvise. The poorest Tatars, dressed only in sheepskin jackets and underarmed, were called kazindji (Tatar rabble). Such units had Rather low combat quality but still could be used for auxiliary tasks
